THERE may have been torrential downpours at Ruskin Drive but that did not stop the second annual Crown Green Bowling challenge in memory of Lol Pennington.
A star-studded line-up turned out for the event in memory of Laurence 'Lol' Pennington, the dad of comedian and actor Johnny Vegas who died in 2017, on what would have been his 88th birthday.

The Barton Pickles JV Crown Green Bowls Challenge took place at Ruskin Sports Village this afternoon (Saturday) as members of the public joined forces with the celebs on the bowling mat.

Famous faces at the event included Johnny Vegas himself; Royle Family star Ricky Tomlinson and Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle in the ITV soap.
Crowds braved the rain on the day
Meanwhike, others included Sunday Brunch chef and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Simon Rimmer; actor Tim Healy famed for Auf Wiedersehen Pet and Benidorm; England rugby league and union legend Jason Robinson OBE and Saints and rugby league stars past and present including Louie McCarthy Scarsbrook, James Roby, Paul Wellens, Danny Sculthorpe, Lee Briers and Warringon Wolves coach Steve Price.
