A BUMPER day of events is in store for St Helens on Saturday, including the town's first Pride festival, the Gerard's music concert, celebrity bowling and Haydock Park's Ladies Evening.

St Helens first Pride

MD Productions and The World of Glass have joined forces with Sexual Health Service’s Emma Lucas to bring the borough its first Pride festival.

The day of events is set to start at noon including activities, a stage of performances, a choir, bubble performer, circus skills and acrobats workshops, arts and crafts, exhibitors at World of Glass, Slime Making Workshops and more.

At 1pm residents will meet in Church Square to join hands from McDonalds on Church Street to the World of Glass to form a Rainbow Wall of acceptance.

Miguel Doforo, creative director of MD Productions, said: “It’s not just about pride of the LGBTQ community but our entire community, accepting each other and working together.

“Please come down and show our community that we have pride in St Helens.”

The event will run until 6pm.

Gerard all day Festival headlined by Stillia.

Gerard Fest will take place at the Gerard pub – all in aid of Violet-Grace’s Gift.

Top acts from St Helens and further afield will be coming together from noon to 9pm for the

festival event headlined by Stillia.

Johnny Vegas back in town for celebrity bowling event

A celebrity line-up will attend the second annual Crown Green Bowling Challenge in memory of Lol Pennington.

Those taking part will battle it out for the Lol Pennington Cup, named in honour of comedian Johnny Vegas’ dad who died in 2017.

Barton Pickles JV Crown Green Bowls Challenge will take place at Ruskin Sports Village on Saturday (August 10) from noon.

Those taking part will include Johnny Vegas; Royle Family star Ricky Tomlinson; Sunday Brunch chef and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Simon Rimmer; actor Tim Healy famed for Auf Wiedersehen Pet and Benidorm; England rugby league and union legend Jason Robinson OBE and Saints stars past and present including Louie McCarthy Scarsbrook, James Roby, Paul Wellens, Danny Sculthorpe and Saints’ head coach Justin Holbrook.

Ladies Day at Haydock Park

Expect style, fashion and music as Ladies’ Day returns today with a DJ performance by TV personality Gok Wan.

People can also get themselves snapped for the Rose of Lancaster Style Stakes competition for a chance to be crowned the winner and take home a holiday worth £2,000.

The day will also see a seven-race card, and in between races, guests are invited to take part in the Rose of Lancaster Style Stakes competition where racegoers can compete for the style crown and a selection of fabulous prizes, all judged by Gok himself.
