BATTLING superhero Jacob Smith and his family have celebrated the end of a long journey as he got to ring the bell at Alder hey Hospital to signal the end of his fight with leukaemia.

Jacob, seven, had spent three years receiving daily chemotherapy and treatment since being diagnosed in March 2016.

Whe he was four Jacob, from Dentons Green, was rushed to Alder Hey after a routine blood test and he was diagnosed with leukaemia, leaving parents Emma and Carl devastated.

Jacob's ordeal has seen him have chemotherapy every day for more than three years.

Over the period he collected thousands of beads, with each bead standing for something that he has had done, such as steroids or for each chemotherapy.

And he and his family were thrilled when he was given the 'all clear' meaning he no longer has to undergo treatment.

"It means everything for us, I was pregnant when he was diagnosed and it was just awful," said mum Emma, 29.

"We are just glad it is all over now."

Jacob got to ring the bell at Alder Hey Hospital to mark him getting the all clear.

Emma added: "It was good, and was really emotional. I couldn't get the words out without crying. It symbolises the end of a really long journey.

"He has been through so much. All that time waiting to ring that bell and hoping he would because not all children get to ring it."

And to celebrate, a party was held for him at Mill Street Barracks, which saw Jacob given a special ride in a limousine.

"He absolutely loved that. He said: 'famous people and millionaires get them cars don't they?'

"He was made up with that!"
