A RAINFORD vegetable grower has partnered up with supermarket Aldi to sell their potatoes throughout the North West.

T Wilson & Sons (Farmers) Ltd, on Maggots Nook Road, will provide Aldi with two new British potato varieties, Gemson and Maris Peer, after teaming up with Yorkshire potato experts and fellow Aldi supplier, R.S. Cockerill.

The pair will work together to deliver around 50 tonnes of the potatoes grown in Rainford to Aldi’s 159 North West stores every week.

T Wilson & Sons (Farmers) Ltd are among Aldi’s longest-serving suppliers, providing the supermarket with a range of British vegetables including carrots, leeks and cabbages from its farms across the North West since 1998.

The business has also enjoyed significant growth during that time, expanding from approximately 10 employees to almost 100.

Julie Keech, Director at T Wilson & Sons (Farmers) Ltd, said: “When Aldi approached us about working with R.S. Cockerill, we thought it would be a great opportunity to grow a product we’d never grown before. We have a great long-term relationship with Aldi, who have always helped us to explore new ways we can grow our operations.

“It’s great to see two family businesses working together to grow their businesses, and we hope that we can look at more collaborations in the future.”

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “T Wilson & Sons’ range of vegetables has proven incredibly popular since we began working with them, and the new partnership with R.S. Cockerill will mean that customers in the North West will be able to enjoy even more of their fantastic produce.

“Building longstanding relationships with British suppliers has been key to our growth, so we’re delighted that we’ve been able to help this family run business on their incredible journey so far, and look forward to continuing our work with them in the future.”
