A PLANNING application has been approved which seeks to create eight homes near to the Mere Grange business development.

St Modwen Homes have drawn up proposals for eight houses at the former Lea Green Colliery site, close to the St Helens Linkway.

The application states: "The site forms part of the former Lea Green Colliery site which has been undergoing redevelopment for residential use, part of which is being delivered by St Modwen Homes.

"This bounds the site to the immediate south and west.

"The land uses within the wider surrounding area are mixed use in nature. The Mere Grange development site is located to the north east of the site.

"This has planning permission for mixed use development comprising residential and employment uses, part of which has been delivered".

St Modwen Homes are currently developing a 152-house scheme on part of the site.

The application for these proposed eight homes also includes plans for access, parking, landscaping and associated works.

It will comprise of two-storey and three-bedroom properties.

Plans add: "This reflects the scale and form of the surrounding built area.

"The proposed dwellings will be located to the front of the site, fronting onto Lowfield Lane and Oakdale Drive".

Planning officers gave the plans the green light.
