THIS is the moment that youths broke into a construction site and crashed diggers into each other.

Reader Amelia Colgan captured this footage of the break-in at the Redrow Homes development off Sophia Drive at Omega on Sunday evening.

Police were called to the building site shortly before 7.30pm, with residents reporting that five teenage boys had broken into the building site – known as the Brook at Taylor’s Chase – before gaining access to diggers, steamrollers and other machinery and crashing the vehicles into each other.

A JCB digger was damaged during the incident and a police helicopter was deployed in a bid to trace the offenders, but they were not caught – having fled the area on bicycles.

All but one of the youths were wearing black clothing, while the other had a grey hoodie.

Cheshire Police’s enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

A force spokesman said: “At around 7.20pm on Sunday, July 21, police were called to a report of a small group of youths driving industrial vehicles at a housing development off Sophia Drive.

“Officers attended the scene and discovered that the site had been broken into, and a JCB digger had been damaged.

“All of the site’s industrial vehicles were accounted for.

“Officers searched the area in an effort to find the offenders, supported by the National Police Air Service.

“Unfortunately, they were unable to locate the offenders.

“It is believed that a group of four or five youths were involved in the incident – all but one of them is described as wearing black clothing, the other had a grey hoodie on.

“The offenders are believed to have fled the area on bicycles.”
