PLANS to demolish an empty parish hall and build bungalows in its place which attracted objections from residents have been withdrawn.

The proposals, seeking to knock down the vacant Billinge Public Hall on Pingot Road and replace it with two detached four-bedroom bungalows, had been submitted in June.

The plans said the bungalows would have associated parking, access and gardens.

However, the application sparked objection letters from some residents who raised worries including over traffic congestion, poor visibility and claims the area already had a large amount of residential properties "squeezed into a small area".

One letter said: "The junction of Pingot Road and Main Road is notorious for traffic incidents" and claimed "the road cannot cope with the amount of traffic it currently retains", saying residents have petitioned for years to make the road safer.

It added the area is "saturated with buildings squeezed into small areas" and that plans "do not take into account the impact on the surrounding houses".

They added the area has "always been for commercial use" and "never been a residential build".

Others also addressed concerns over "loss of privacy"due to being potentially overlooked and a "substantial loss of light and overshadowing".

The plans were withdrawn, with the applicant asked to discuss amendments or revisions with the case officer if they wish to resubmit.
