A MOTORCYCLIST in his 20s has been taken to hospital after being involved in a crash after his vehicle went off the road.

Police and ambulance were called to the scene on Elephant Lane, Thatto Heath, outside the St Helens Hall & Lodge Care Home this afternoon (Monday, July 8).

Emergency services attended shortly after midday.

It is believed the motorbike came off the road and collide into railings.

The motorcyclist, a man in his mid-20s, has been taken to hospital with what an ambulance spokeswoman described as "quite serious torso injuries".

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "A report came to us at 12.20pm of a single-vehicle collision involving a motorbike.

"A motorcyclist in his 20s was taken to hospital."

He added the injuries were believed to be "non life-threatening".

A North West Ambulance spokeswoman added: "We were called at 12.11pm.

"A man in his mid-20s was taken to hospital with torso injuries. We let the hospital know we were coming.

"We sent an advanced paramedic, an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle."
