THE M62 had to be closed this afternoon following a crash between Junctions five and six.
The crash took place between Huyton and Tarbock Island.
A driver has been treated by ambulance and a search was launched for a dog which escaped from a vehicle.
Police have detained a driver after conducting a roadside breath test on suspicion of drink driving.
