A FEW months ago I sent a letter into the Star in which I (somewhat sarcastically) thanked the council for making it easier for motorists to drive on to the footpaths.

Within days of my letter appearing in print, several of the people I meet at the bus stop at the corner of Coronation Road commented on the fact that that was exactly what was happening.

Some drivers are too lazy to park safely on the road and walk to the shop/beauty parlour or hairdressers.

Last week I was standing at the bus stop and was berated by a male driver for not making room on the footpath for him to get on and drive past a car parked outside the hairdressers.

This car was parked at an angle which slightly reduced the passing width through which any competent driver would not have had any trouble.

Is it now time for the council to place cast iron bell shaped bollards (as used on the Four Acre estate) by this bus stop, to protect pedestrians?
