ON Saturday, June 22, my friend and I visited Marks and Spencer on Ravenhead Retail Park using the bus service.

After finishing our shopping we waited at the prescribed bus stop for the return journey.

After two hours (by which time the queue had grown to 22 – all of whom were elderly) no bus had appeared and no explanation was forthcoming.

We used the Marks and Spencer’s freephone to book taxis for everyone.

On contacting Hatton’s Travel, who the run service to the retail park, I was informed that the bus broke down, was repaired and broke down again. There was no other bus available.

There were a few of us who found standing for such a long time really testing – one of the ladies needed help getting in and out of the taxi.

If local businesses rely on this service for custom, how can they accept that nothing is in place for transport breakdowns?
