A TRIBUTE has been paid to a church deacon who passed away while on holiday in Spain.

Rev Deacon Edward 'Ted' Kane had served for many years as deacon at St Vincent de Paul Church on Derbyshire Hill Road.

He died suddenly on Tuesday, June 4 aged 77, while on holiday in Spain.

A funeral for Ted will be held at St Vincent's at 11am today (Tuesday, June 25) followed by cremation at St Helens Crematorium at 1pm.

An obituary placed in the Star in memory of Ted read: "Beloved husband of Pauline, died suddenly on the 4th June, 2019 aged 77, whilst on holiday in Spain.

"Ted was Deacon for St Vincent's Church, Derbyshire Hill for many years. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and congregation.

"A Requiem Mass will be held at St Vincent's Church on 25th June 2019 at 11.00am followed by cremation at St Helens Crematorium at 1.00pm.
