DETECTIVES are investigating a 'fake' Merseyside Police account on social media platform Twitter.
The force says an account has been reported to them and that enquiries are ongoing.

Someone's trying to impersonate our official account so we wanted you to know how you can always tell it's us. Ours has a blue tick as it’s been verified by @Twitter . It’s also been going for years & you'll see we have 143,000 followers not a few hundred as hoax accounts can do.

A Merseyside Police statement said: "We can confirm that detectives are aware and investigating a fake Merseyside Police Twitter account.
"Enquiries are ongoing and the account has been reported to Twitter.
"Members of the public are reminded that the force’s corporate Twitter account (@MerseyPolice) has a blue tick, joined Twitter in April 2009 and has more than 140,000 followers.
"Any similar account without this information should be ignored".
