ORGANISERS of Rainford’s Picnic in the Park have hailed the “fantastic” turnout and atmosphere at Saturday night’s concert.

More than 1,600 people are believed to have gathered in Jubilee Playing Fields where 80s pop band T’Pau headlined the day long festival.

Visitors also took part in a Guinness World attempt of the longest ‘Oops upside your head’ by The Gap Band.

The event was such a success that organisers have already set a date for next year’s Picnic in the Park.

Phil Thomas, of PT Kitchens, one of the committee members, said:

“Picnic in the Park was fantastic.

“We don’t have the official figures yet but we estimate that around 1,600 people turned up throughout the day, which is amazing.

“We did a World Record attempt for the longest ‘Oops upside your head’ too, which we got and the weather just about stayed well behaved so it was brilliant.

“Carol Decker, the lead singer of T’Pau, is one of the nicest people I’ve met and was really complimentary on what we did for her backstage

“She even said that she has never been to such a friendly festival before which is just great.

“We enjoyed it so much that we will be doing it again on June 6 2020 and hopefully will have the full line up announced by the end of this summer.

“Thank you to every one of the acts for taking part and for those who turned up on the day.

“See you all next year.”

Other acts who performed and wowed the crowds on the day were: Chasing Crows, Scratch, The Shakers, Mixtape, Ultra 90s Fresh and Perfect Strangers.
