A PRIMARY school in Trafford has had to close today because of a man on the roof of a nearby building.

St Hilda's C of E Primary School in Warwick Road South in Firswood has had to closed because the emergency services are currently dealing with an incident involving a man on a roof.

Greater Manchester Police were called to the scene around 7am.

In a statement on their website the school said: "URGENT MESSAGE

"Due to an unforeseen incident, police have advised that St. Hilda's will be closed for today.

"Safeguarding is paramount and we must ensure the safety of our pupils.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

"Any children that come to school today will be sent straight back home once parents have been contacted.

"Warwick Road South has been closed to all public until this incident has been resolved.

"Thank you for your cooperation.

"We can confirm this is not a hoax."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly after 7am we were called to Warwick Street to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man on a roof of a property near to St Hilda's Primary School.

"The emergency services are in attendance."
