ONCE again the town centre is being hit.
Clarks is becoming a outlet or to be honest, a clearance store.
Topshop is closing.
Still no WHSmith or Primark. No bookshop, no music shop.
Perhaps the council could tell us what it intends to do at this moment in time, not as a “priority for the future”.
Today I am going shopping in Warrington.
Why? because despite the same issues afflicting all retail, they have made it work.
I have lived in St Helens all my life and I am frankly ashamed of the way we have sat on our hands and done nothing, letting money pour out of the town to other local retail areas.
They talk about having empty stores.
Use one for the library seeing that we supposedly own some of the high street.
Start thinking outside the box. I worked in retail management for 35 years.
