MORE than 20 people took on the borough boundary yesterday in the third annual Beating the Bounds.

Twelve intrepid walkers met up at The Junction Pub in Rainford at 4.30am on Sunday, May 19 to take part in the Anglo-Saxon tradition of ‘Breaking the Bounds’ to St Helens, launched by history buff Ste Lingard in 2017.

A further 10 joined on parts of the route for sections of the boundary, with five completing the 42.5 mile walk around the entire borough from 4.30am to 8.20pm taking in picturesque scenery such as Billinge Hill, Sidings Lane Nature Reserve and the Nine Arches Bridge.

Many raised funds for charity during the event.

Organiser Ste, 43, said: "This year's event went swimmingly, the weather was perfect, not too hot or cold and of the 12 people who started first thing in the morning five of us did the whole thing and we had another 10 join us and spectators cheering us on.

"It's a great thing to see people come and take on this walk, meet new people and learn something about St Helens.

"I would like to thank everyone very much for turning up and I hope to see you all again next year."
