THE sixth annual Westfield Street Music Festival is taking place next month in memory of knife crime victim Danny Fox.

The popular event will bring music and dance back to Westfield Street on Sunday, June 2 with a packed line up of more than 100 artists from across the borough.

This year organisers hope that working with charity The Daniel Fox Foundation will be a fitting tribute to the 29-year-old who used to work on Westfield Street as a doorman.

Danny was fatally stabbed in 2016 and his family set up the foundation in his name to raise awareness and campaign for law changes surrounding knife crime.

Karl Ashton, Daniel’s step dad, said: “It’s an honour to be involved as Westfield Street Festival seems to be growing by the year and it’s nice to have us associated with it because Daniel worked on Westfield Street.

"We just hope it will be successful for us and the community.”

Matt Williams, general manager of The Sefton and event organiser, added: “This is the sixth year of Westfield Street Festival and we’re continuing on the back of the success of previous years. "We’ve gone from strength to strength and there are going to be more than 100 acts on the day from 12pm to 6pm.

"The Daniel Fox Foundation is the charity partner we’re working with this year and it’s great to have them on board.”

Sponsors for the event include Whitley Neil, ODs Clothing, Anatolia Grill and St Helens Council with further businesses backing the event due to be announced soon as well as

Councillor Kate Groucutt, cabinet member for futures and performance, said: “Westfield Street Festival is a great showcase for the diverse culture and independent businesses we have here in St Helens Town Centre.

"As a council we support events that demonstrate that St Helens is a vibrant town which provides visitors with a range of attractions to keep them coming back.

"We are delighted to be backing this event once again so that it brings people from far and wide to have fun, support our businesses and help good causes at the same time.”
