NURSES from St Helens and Whiston Hospitals have been speaking about their experiences to mark International Nurses Day.
Today, Sunday, May 12 is International Nurses Day, when the achievements and hard work of nurses are celebrated across the globe to coincide with Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
At the St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust, there are more than 2,491 nurses and 64 international nurses have been recruited since 2015.
The day will also see praise for long serving nurses including Lesley Bragg, Clinic Manager and Maria Capper, sister, who have nearly 87 years’ service at the Trust between them.
Here are their stories.
Alexandra Mckenna, Student Nurse, Ward 5B
Chika Uko – Staff Nurse recruited as an international nurse, works on 5A
Daniel Miller, Staff Nurse, Newton Intermediate Care Unit, Newton Hospital
Linda Thomas, Sister, Theatre Recovery, St Helens Hospital
