THE newly opened clubhouse at Sherdley Park Golf Club - which is available to the general public - has received a "wonderful" reception, says its management.

The £1m clubhouse at Sherdley Park Golf Course was unveiled on Saturday - including its new restaurant and bar The Park.

Planning permission was received last December for the £1m wholesale transformation of the clubhouse.

Last summer new management Green Circle Estates took Sherdley Park golf course on a 150-year lease.

The new clubhouse includes a new restaurant, bar and terrace which will be open to all members of the public, available for park goers as well as for golfers.

St Helens Star:

The ribbon was cut last weekend to officially launch the new premises as a host of events took place.

These included a free children’s fun bus and children’s golf lessons at the driving range and a longest drive competition.

A spokesperson for Green Circle Estates has described the feedback from the public since the launch has been “wonderful”.

He said: “The local community are overwhelmed with the fact they have us on their doorstep and the feedback to the food and service has been wonderful”.

Star readers have also welcomed the new premises.

Green Circle Estates Ltd, which has numerous golf courses including Allerton Manor in Liverpool, took over management of the golf course and nearby driving range last summer.

The proposals, for the renovation stated they”represent considerable investment in what is currently an extremely poor quality, unsightly, and not fit for purpose golf clubhouse”.

It said the”internal and external works will result in visual enhancements and will provide modern, fit for purpose facilities, providing benefits to both golfers and other park users”.

Meanwhile, external works have created a “vibrant, modern ‘pavilion-in-the-park’ facility”.

Other works included to the brickwork; refurbished patio areas and renewed railings.
