THE first phase of work to transform a Prescot street have begun today, Tuesday, May 7.

The year-long project will see improvements take place to transform Eccleston Street in Prescot town centre.

These will include the renewal of the current paving, with high quality durable materials, upgrades to street furniture and improved access for pedestrians.

The work is happening as a result of funding secured to improve transport connections in Prescot, which aim to make the town a more attractive place for people to visit and spend time.

Funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority will also contribute towards update to Prescot railway station, which will include a remodelled car park and provision of two new lifts in the station, together with new pedestrian an d cycle facilities and way finding signage between the station and town centre.

Tarmac Trading Limited and Huyton Asphalt Civils Limited have been appointed to carry out the work along Eccleston Street , which will be phased over approximately 12 months.

There will be a works embargo for the 2019 festive period.

It is inevitable that extensive highway works of this nature will cause some disruption.

However this will be kept to a minimum.
