“YOU’RE in for a weepy,” said theatre manager Neville Roby at the opening night of Andrew Bovell’s Things I know to Be True at the Garrick.
The play shows you can choose your friends but not your family.
Every character is played with passion. Each adult child confesses their dilemmas to the audience and begs for understanding.
They give a superb and uninhibited display of acting flinging their souls into their confessions which their mother seems to know of before they even say anything.
Charlie Tomlinson and Brigid Hemingway as Bob and Fran have their own issues which are equally moving.
There is still room for laughter but this is a serious play and could represent the tussles of almost any family anywhere.
* Things I know to be true is at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse until May 4.
