St Helens Star:

STAR readers have labelled Ma Vegas as "brilliant" after her TV debut of All Round to Mrs Brown's on Saturday night.

Thatto Heath comedian and actor Johnny, whose real name is Michael Pennington, appeared on the BBC One spin off show of Mrs Brown’s Boys alongside his mum Pat Pennington and sports presenter Clare Balding.

But it was Pat aka Ma Vegas who stole the show, with Star readers taking to social media to praise the 81-year-old mum-of-four.

Ruth Howorth said: "I loved it his mum was so funny best yet on the show."

Sue Woods added: "OMG what a funny lady. You can see where JV gets his humour from. He should be so proud of her."

Michelle Langtree, said: "Absolutely brilliant they were so funny. I agree they should have a show of their own."

Dot Birch Sutton added: "She should have her own series. It was so funny and I don't think she realises she's it.

"It was a tonic to watch TV and have a good belly laugh."

Margaret Moville said: "I recorded it and had to keep pausing it when I played it back cos I was laughing so much. She is a star."

Josephine Simms added: "Patricia's deadpan humour is fantastic!

"Loved the show, had tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks."

Brian Sandford said: "She should be crowned Queen of Thatto Heath."

Ma Vegas later sat down for a heart to heart with Mrs Brown where he asked her about when Johnny was to become a priest.

She said: “It was awful, I didn’t like it even though he was only 11.

“One lad kept pinching his food so one day he stabbed him.”

This was met with raucous laughter from the studio audience and Johnny marching into the kitchen adding: “I didn’t stab him, he came to nick sausages and I put a fork in his hand, you’re making it sound like Oz.”

Talking about when her now famous son announced that he was to become a comedian she said: “Well what do you do with that?”

Since the show aired Pat is now on Twitter with her own handle @MaVegas2 where she announced she was upset to be missing bingo to watch the show via a short video.

Speaking to the Star ahead of the show Johnny, 48, said: “Another Star is born, there’s the St Helens Star and now there is Pat Pennington.

“She has always been funny, but it was surreal and great being on the stage with my mum. She really put me in my place on All Round to Mrs Brown’s.”

Pat also grabbed attention last month for her hilarious interview with former Saints player Paul Sculthorpe at the opening of the new M&S on Ravenhead Retail Park.
