ARMED police and a police negotiator were called to a six-hour stand-off after a man was reportedly in possession of a knife in Newton-le-Willows.
Officers were called at around 2pm on Wednesday (April 10) to reports of a man believed to be in possession of a blade on Ruskin Avenue, Newton-le-Willows.

Police put an armed containment in place while officers including a negotiator dealt with the incident.

Shortly after 8.20pm police say a man was detained to prevent a further breach of the peace.
A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of affray.
A police spokeswoman added: "We would like to thank residents for their patience."
