POLICE issued a warning after reports of youths throwing bottles and missiles into a football ground during matches.

Police issued the warning via social media after reports of incidents at Prescot Cables Football Club.

The appeal was made during Cables' home match against Leek Town on Tuesday evening.

Knowsley Police said: "This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated and is quite frankly disgraceful.

"We want to let you know that any person that is found to be responsible for a criminal offence will not be returned home to you for a telling off but will be going straight to custody so please be warned.

"A local football team along with its supporters are trying to enjoy a match but unfortunately a small minority of youths who simply can't behave themselves whilst showing absolutely no respect to people in and around the ground."
