An outpouring of love and tributes to the dad-of-two's family have been posted on social media since the tribute from his wife Leighanne Glanister in the Star.

One tribute was from Claire Hargraves, who claims Ian along with two other friends, saved the lives of her husband and daughter in 2015 following an horrific crash on the Rainford Bypass.

She said: "I was just so shocked when I realised what had happened to him, because this man saved my daughter's life.

"In May 2015, my husband David had picked up my daughter Emily, who was then 11, from school and was driving from Rainford to St Helens to meet me to go shopping for my birthday present.

"But they crashed into another car causing them to go flying into a sign on Mill Lane, which trapped my daughter inside and wrote the car off."

Ian and two other friends who were on motorbikes were behind them and stopped and diverted the traffic.

Claire, 36, added: "Ian even pulled Emily to safety out of the window as a sign was blocking the car door shut and she was stuck.

"I could have lost my family that day, and after reading the article in the Star I realised that one of Ian's daughter's isn't that much younger than what Emily was when it happened.

Floral tributes left at the scene in Knutsford where Ian died

"I'm sure they know already but I just wanted to say how much of a hero their dad was.

"It's so sad what has happened to him, especially with how he's helped others and us, but I hope his family know that we are eternally grateful for this kind man and his friends stopping that day.

"To us he will always be our hero."

Claire said she will watch the cortege of vans and bikes driving in tribute to Ian for his funeral on Friday, April 12 from the Saints stadium to St Helens Crematorium for the ceremony at 12.30pm.
