REVISED speed limits are in place on the Rainford bypass and the East Lancs to slow traffic towards junctions at Windle Island in order to improve safety.
Reduced speed limits of 40mph are now in place for sections of the roads near to the junctions.
Meanwhile, a limit of 60mph is in place beyond certain distances from the junctions up to boundaries with neighbouring boroughs.
The changes came into effect on Monday (March 25).
The 40mph limits will be in place at the following locations:
- A570 Rainford Bypass (Northbound)
From its junction with the A580 East Lancashire Road to a point 410 metres in a northerly direction.
- A570 Rainford Bypass (Southbound)
From its junction with the A580 East Lancashire Road to a point 525 metres in a northerly direction.
- A580 East Lancashire Road (Westbound)
From a point 467 metres east of its junction with the A570 Rainford Bypass for a length of approximately 670 metres in a westerly direction.
- A580 East Lancashire Road (Eastbound)
From a point 245 metres east of its junction with the A570 Rainford Bypass for a length of approximately 780 metres in a westerly direction.
- Crank Road
From its junction with the A570 Rainford Bypass to a point 260 metres in a north-easterly direction.
Meanwhile, 60mph limits are in place at:
- A570 Rainford Bypass (Northbound)
From a point 410 metres north of its junction with the A580 East Lancashire Road to the borough boundary with West Lancashire.
- A570 Rainford Bypass (Southbound)
From a point 525 metres north of its junction with the A580 East Lancashire Road to the borough boundary with West Lancashire.
- A580 East Lancashire Road (Westbound)
(a) From the circulatory carriageway of the M6/A580/A49 intersection at Haydock Island in a westerly direction to a point 467 metres east of its junction with the A570 Rainford
(b) From a point 203 metres west of its junction with the A570 Rainford Bypass in a westerly direction to the borough boundary with Knowsley.
- A580 East Lancashire Road (Eastbound)
(a) From a point 500 metres west of the circulatory carriageway of the M6/A580/A49 intersection at Haydock Island in a westerly direction to a point 245 metres east of its junction with the A570 Rainford Bypass.
(b) From a point 535 metres west of its junction with the A570 Rainford Bypass to the Borough boundary with Knowsley.
The changes came into operation on Monday, March 25.
