A SCHOOLGIRL has been named first runner-up in a prestigious national modelling competition which helps children with cancer.

Melissa Warren from Rainhill was one of 41 finalists in the ‘Editorial’ and ‘Commercial’ categories as the search for Top Model 2019 reached its climax at London’s Amba Hotel at the weekend (March 23 and 24). The Rainhill High pupil was first runner up in the ‘Editorial’ category and has raised more than £200 for the charity ‘Children with Cancer UK’.

Melissa said: “I've been inspired by the work of Children with Cancer UK and while I’m delighted to be named first runner-up this means a lot to the charity too.

"Every pound raised is invested in specialist research to help save the life of every child with cancer and to keep families together.

"I’ve had an amazing experience this weekend and I’m grateful to everybody who voted for me.”

Top Model is widely regarded as the world’s premier professional model search competition.

The annual finals weekend consisted of three spectacular shows featuring all the 2019 finalists alongside top British and international designers.

The competition also sponsors Children with Cancer UK, matching every public vote for individual models with a donation to the charity.

Rainhill high head of school, Josie Thorogood, said: “Melissa is a popular, hard-working pupil and a real ambassador for the school. We are delighted for her.”

Melissa's mum Gemma added: "It was an incredible weekend. Melissa is over the moon and all the family is really proud of her."

Children with Cancer UK is the leading national children’s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer. Donations fund life-saving research into the causes, treatment and prevention of childhood cancer.
