POLICE say their investigation into a break-in at a social club which saw significant damage and a large quantity of cash stolen is ongoing.

Parr Conservative and Workingmen's Club on Broad Oak Road was targeted in the break-in during the early hours of Wednesday.

Offenders forced their way in, causing damage to the club's doors and shutters.

They smashed their way into all the tills and fruit and games machines, stealing all the cash from them.

It is believed around £30,000 worth of damage has been inflicted by the burglars, with between £10,000 and £15,000 in cash taken.

Club representatives have been left sickened after the devastating break-in.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We’re appealing for information following a burglary in St Helens in the early hours of Wednesday, March 20.

"It was reported that sometime between 3am and 7.30am, unknown offenders forced entry to Parr Conservative Club in Broad Oak Road through the shutters and front door.

"Significant damage was caused inside the property before the offenders made off with a quantity of cash.

"CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 quoting ref. 19100122151 or Crimestoppers."
