A LORRY driver has died after crashing on the M6 this morning.
A man in his 60s had been taken to hospital in a "critical condition" after the incident, in which a lorry was reported to have gone off the road.
Police have confirmed the man has since sadly died.
His family is being supported by specially trained officers
The lorry was involved in the incident between junction 25 at Bryn and junction 26 at Orrell.
Congestion stretched back beyond junction 23 at Haydock.
The closure was put in place at around 7.15am.
Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident which closed the northbound carriageway.
