JOHNNY Vegas will appear on Channel 4's ‘The Great Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off’ airing tonight at 8pm.

St Helens Star:

Johnny is one 20 celebrities who have taken part over five weeks in the spin off programme, which is raising cash for Stand Up To Cancer, a joint fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4.

The Thatto Heath dad-of-two, comedian, actor and director will be appearing alongside rapper Big Narsatie, Sandi Toksvig, Labour MP Jess Phillips and Olympic heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

Johnny, whose real name is Michael Pennington, lost his dad Laurence 'Lol' Pennington to cancer at Willowbrook Hospice on March 10 2017, aged 85.

Even before his dad's death, he had been a huge supporter of not only Stand Up to Cancer, but also the NHS, St Helens and Whiston Hospitals and Willowbrook Hospice.

He said: "It's all for a great cause but I am both looking forward to and dreading it airing tonight because I got so competitive.

"Baking is not a culinary skill I have, and I know I was on there for comedy but I'm worried I may have come across grumpy.

"It was so fun to be part of and we all got on so well, Big Narstie only did one episode because he felt poorly after the first day, but he was so funny, honestly some of the things he made.

"I hope people back home in St Helens tune in tonight, I always feel very supported by people back home.

"That's one reason why I'm always happy to get back home.

"Both of my parents have recieved care at St Helens and Whiston Hospitals so to be able to contribute to Stand Up to Cancer is an amazing cause and that's what this is all about."

Tune in tonight to watch how Johnny does in the Bake Off tent.
