A GROUP of friends got together to go on a clean up the woodland in Victoria Park and were 'devastated' to see the effects of littering.
Cheryl Astley and her friends targeted the back of the community gardens and Spirit Restaurant.
She said: "It was devastating to see so much plastic rubbish in the woodland only just a hop away from the Mersey.
"We found carpet, plastics, broken glass, we even found sadly used needles.
"We spent three hours litter picking but still there was more to do so we are going back in to do another litter pick on Sunday.
"Between 11am and 1pm we are meeting at the New Routes Community Gardens and tea, coffee and cake will be provided too."
Wayne Harrison also collected more than 25 bags of rubbish in two hours at Sankey Valley Park on Sunday.
