A MAN who was arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman died at an address in Parr remains in police custody for questioning.

Police were called to an address in Hignett Avenue, Parr at around 12.50pm on Monday afternoon to reports a woman had been stabbed.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was declared dead at the scene.

Police and forensic teams were at the address on Monday.

At this stage the incident is believed to be "domestic related", police say.

A 46-year-old man from St Helens was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He was taken to custody for questioning. Police say an extension has been granted for them to continue questioning the suspect.

Neighbours on the estate expressed their shock after the incident.

One said:“I’ve just moved in, it’s really quiet and nothing like this normally happens.

"The police have been here a few hours. It’s awful.”

Another said: “I got home from work at 2.30pm and saw the police here. It is shocking.

“It is usually a quiet street here and nothing like this normally happens. We all look out for each other and always have done.”
