Justin Holbrook happy to see Saints beat unorthodox London

Tries from Dom Peyroux, Regan Grace, Theo Fages, Lachlan Coote and Kevin Naiqama ensured they kept their 100 per cent record and a two-point lead at the Super League summit.

Saints boss Justin Holbrook was pleased with another patient display in the face of some slowing down tactics from a plucky but unorthodox Broncos team.

Holbrook said: "I am pleased with the result. I can see why London got promoted; they are a hardworking team and they did that again tonight.

"We were unlucky not to score another four or five tries, but to their credit London kept turning up.

"I’d like to give our boys a big wrap, these can be difficult games these ones and we put in a real quality performance, as we did last week.

"That is the most pleasing thing for me, in particular the halves – I thought Jonny Lomax and Theo Fages were outstanding for us.

"We had to play with a lot of patience because deliberately slowing the play down meant we got a lot of penalties, but we kept calm in that situation and I thought it was a great performance."

London, who have already beaten Wakefield and Wigan this year, provided something different to the normal Super League structure and style.

And Holbrook admitted that took some getting used to.

"They are hard to play against," he said.

"They are full of trick shots and come with a lot of plays, short kick offs from the start, 50/50 balls into no man’s land to try and get a bit of luck.

"I thought we did well to nullify that.

"They are a dangerous side, I have probably done my biggest week of video this week because they were a bit unknown, and to our credit I thought they had a real good attitude on how they went about the game."

He explained the absence of skipper James Roby, who missed out with a niggle.

"He picked up a niggle at the end of the Salford game and we thought he would be ok. But he hurt it a bit at training.

"He missed tonight but he will be fine for next week against Huddersfield.

"It was great to give young Aaron Smith a game. He is a great young player and he did really well for us tonight," he said.

He also explained that Matty Lees had tonsillitis and that is why he was replaced by Jack Ashworth on the bench.

"Jack has been playing well at Leigh so it was a good night for him. And it was also good to give some other guys bigger minutes," he said.

There were some odd flashes of what is to come on drier pitches from Fijian skipper Kevin Naiqama, who showed the odd penetrative burst and also scored a try.

Holbrook said: "It was great to see Kevin Naiqama get a bit more ball there in the second half in space. "He is only going to get better the more he settles into our side.

"Likewise Joseph Paulo – the more time he can get with the combinations out there the better."
