FURTHER to the article in January 31 at St Helens Star entitled Train Switch Frustration Grows.

I have been travelling by train to Liverpool for many years and have always found problems with the park and ride systems in all three stations in St Helens.

When parking at Lea Green, where the express train stops instead of the Junction Station, I can never find a vacant parking bay.

So as usual, along with many other commuters last week, I parked outside a bay.

I was not causing any obstruction to other vehicles.

Returning to my car later that day I had been issued with a £50 fine. I am appealing against the fine and hope the other ‘offenders’ will do the same.

Incidentally before I parked that morning at Lea Green, I had already parked in a bay at St Helens Central Station. Normally there is not sufficient parking there either.

But the trains to Liverpool had been cancelled because of cable theft, so parking at Lea Green was my alternative.

Maybe I should have thought about parking at the Junction now that they have built a large extension to their car park, which seems to be a white elephant now that the express train doesn’t stop there.
I hope everyone who was fined like me will appeal against this unfair penalty.
