FORMER Liverpool FC captain and Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson will host a golf day at Houghwood in aid of vulnerable people in the region.

Businesses from across the region can play a full 18 holes, following breakfast, from a shotgun start, with several opportunities to show off their golf skills and challenge colleagues with longest drive and nearest the pin competitions and a chance to beat Houghwood’s pro golfer.

The event takes place on Thursday, May 16 and is in aid of Nugent, which offers a diverse range of support to adults and children in Merseyside through schools, care homes, community and social work services and social enterprise.

Teams taking part and challenging Phil on the golf course have always been in good company in the annual event.

Over the last couple of years, the event has also been joined by ex-Liverpool players David Fairclough, Terry McDermot and David Johnson, and former Everton player Alan Stubbs.

In the evening, the players are entertained, following a three-course dinner, presentation of awards and winner’s trophies and charity auction, by a surprise guest after dinner speaker.

Last year former Red Jamie Carragher was welcomed to Houghwood Golf Club for the event.

All funds raised at Phil Thompson’s Golf Classic 2019 will directly go to help provide support for vulnerable children and adults in our communities.
