Urmston has been in the press recently as the new up and coming town to be in, which I am absolutely thrilled about.

Being born and bred in Urmston I have seen many changes over the years. I, like many others, was a little concerned when I first learned that we were to have the Trafford Centre built here and the effect it would have on our town but Urmston has gone from strength to strength and in my personal opinion the Trafford Centre has only added to Urmston’s ever growing appeal.

Restaurants and bars are popping up all over the town; only one or two haven’t lasted as long as they’d hoped, but it’s a credit to Urmston that they are choosing to come here and give us a try! However, the majority of them are doing great and really thriving here.

We have a tremendous selection of eateries here. You can find live music most nights of the week, if that’s your thing, but I guarantee you’ll always find a warm, friendly welcome from the locals. I believe it’s this Urmston community focused friendship and support that really puts us firmly on the Trafford map. There genuinely is something for everyone here in Urmston.

I used to feel that Urmston was the poor relative to Altrincham. I have always loved going to Altrincham for its shops and market but as Altrincham flourished I felt a bit that Urmston was being left behind. I have heard others suggest this also. However, I really think this has changed in recent years, and now with the new Market41 on its way Urmston is again making leaps forward in its journey to not only match the great progress of Altrincham but dare I say maybe even surpass it!

I’m very proud to be from Urmston and I’m excited for what the future holds for the area. I know change can be scary and a bit daunting but I think if we embrace the changes and grow with it we will have a town to rival any, not just here in Trafford but anywhere in the country!

Having travelled and lived in different towns, not just around the country but around the world, I have always come home to the town of my birth, Urmston. To steal a quote from a famous Sinatra song ‘it’s one Town that will not let you down, this is my kind of Town’

See you next week!
