A ONE off screening of feel good family film Matilda will take place on Wednesday, February 27 at Cineworld St Helens to raise funds for 23-year-old cancer fighter Chris Carberry.

The former bricklayer from Rainford was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, osteosarcoma in December 2015.

During his fight with the disease, Chris had his left leg amputated in March 2016 – a decision he described as “leg or life”.

The 2018 Pride of St Helens Courage Award winner is currently seeking alternative treatment abroad after being given a terminal diagnosis in the UK.

He has done several fundraising activities and events in the past to raise funds, with Cineworld St Helens agreeing to help by screening the 1996 film Matilda.

Theatre manager Jennifer Mulligan said: "We have helped Chris raise funds in the past, so when he came to us with this idea we did our best to get the film and are happy to do what we can.

"Tickets are available on his website and we hope everyone will come and watch a lovely feel good movie for a good cause."

  • Tickets cost £8 for adults, £4 for age four to 16 and free for younger than four, but seats must be reserved. To book click here.
