THE Salvation Army Church in Sale was flooded with the sound of music!
The Brass and Voices concert on Saturday was held in aid of the Mayor of Trafford’s charity fund.
Acting as MC, Gareth Daniel amused the audience with jokes.
The Mayor, Cllr Tom Ross, was full of smiles at the generosity of the capacity audience in raising over £1,000 towards his charities, Trafford Mencap and St. Ann’s, Stretford, Community Refugee Project.
He smiled throughout when he heard the Meadway Singers and the Meadway Youth Choir singing selections from Oliver and Can you Feel the Love Tonight with clear diction and expression.
Sale Male Voice Choir let its light shine with enthusiasm and rhythm when performing three spirituals including the favourite of Dr Martin Luther King, Precious Lord, Take my Hand.
A musical highlight came when 12-year-old Oscar Fairclough, a Foundation Chorister at Manchester Cathedral sang.
His treble voice reached the heights with incredible sweetness when he performed Bach’s Bist du Bei Mir in German and captured the poignancy of Schonberg’s Empty Chairs at Empty Tables.
Sale Brass Band, conducted by John Anderson, raised the roof with seven tunes including Ticket to Ride which mimicked the sound of a steam train.
Two soloists stood out with Mary Warby playing a soprano cornet piece , Intermezzo, and Mary Duke, a tenor horn solo, Demeiza.
The concert was supported by Trafford Arts Association.
