A POLICE chase of a suspected stolen car was called off due to today's foggy weather.

A police helicopter was called to help a pursuit of a suspected stolen car, which had been spotted in Liverpool.

At around 2.20pm, officers saw a VW Golf believed to be on cloned plates in the East Lancashire Road area of Norris Green, heading towards Liverpool and the M62.

The car was monitored and seen to drive at speed and go through a red light, through Liverpool and Knowsley and then into St Helens.

Police said a pursuit was authorised but "was cancelled shortly after due to the poor weather conditions".

During the incident, the VW Golf is reported to collided with a Fiat Qubo on the East Lancashire Road in Haydock, causing "minor damage".

  • Anyone with information or may have captured dashcam footage of the car driving at speed this afternoon is asked to contact 101 with reference 525, contact @MerPolCC or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
