THE gloves will be off as Haydock rugby club hosts a charity boxing night which will help Teardrops homeless hub.

The night, to be hosted by Frank Gallagher refereed by Netflix star Shaun Smith, described as the UK's "scariest debt collector".

The event will raise proceeds for Haydock ARLFC and Teardrops Homeless Hub based in St Helens town centre

Recently, Haydock player Danny Gee and his sons dropped off more than 50 sleeping bags at the hub's base as the club made what they described as "an eye opening visit" to the premises.

A club spokesman said: "Haydock ARLFC officials made an eye opening visit to Teardrops, the Supporting the Homeless Charity in St Helens, gaining first hand how much people are in need of support in our town.

"We are proud to say that we will be supporting them with a project in early 2019."

Teardrops' Crab Street hub was unveiled last year at the former Larkins' restaurant site, near to Duke Street.

  • The boxing event will be held at Queens Nightclub on Wigan Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield on Friday, February 15 from 7pm until late.
