IT’S time for runners to sign up for the ninth annual St Helens 10k, one of the biggest events in the borough’s calendar.

Every year hundreds of runners, both professional and amateur, lace up their trainers and pound the St Helens streets with the aim of completing the course, which includes the North Road hill.

The event has come a long way since the inaugural event in 2011 in Birchley Street car park, with more than 2,000 people taking part last year. This year's run will take place on Sunday, March 10.

Linzi Prescott, widow of Steve Prescott who established the race before his death in 2013, said: “The GPW Recruitment St Helens 10k run is an important part of the health and wellbeing calendar in the St Helens community.

“This is what Stephen would have wanted and would be so proud of its development.

“It is also fantastic that other causes and charities benefit from the work of the SPF and St Helens 10k run committee. Let's hope the weather is kind to us this year.”
