ELEVEN food venues across St Helens have been given one star food hygiene ratings or less in 2018.

The rankings, which are listed on the Food Standards Agency’s website, stated that Chans Fish and Chips on Derbyshire Hill Road received the lowest possible result of 0 food hygiene rating, the only in the borough to have such a title.

Ten other venues got the second lowest rating of one with L J's Cafe in St Mary's Market, Fingerpost Pizzeria, Geno's on Duke Street, Hot Stuff on Duke Street, L'amore Pizza on Westfield Street, St Helens Fried Chicken on Water Street, The Springfield Hotel in Thatto Heath, Shillong Indian Takeaway on Duke Street, Broad Oak Fish Bar, Pizza Place on Junction Lane and The Ship Inn on Blackbrook Road are all requiring ‘urgent improvement.’

Meanwhile, 20 venues received top marks from the FSA in 2018, after being given the highest mark, five, this year.
