A HEAVY metal loving librarian has just seen his biography of ear-splitting rock band Judas Priest released nationwide.
Neil Daniels (25), who writes for cult rock fanzines Fireworks and Powerplay, took just over a year to write the 320-page hardback book The Story of Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith'.
The epic piece of work includes more than 50 interviews with prominent rock musicians and producers, as well as chats with several childhood friends of the band.
Neil, of Peasley Cross, said: "Judas Priest practically created the style of music known as heavy metal. They've had tremendous success in the States but are still underrated over here.
"I've seen them live several times and they're a terrific live band - they deserve all the accolades they get!"
Neil, who works as a college librarian, first listened to Judas Priest as a teenager.
Then, when he started writing on rock websites - while completing a degree in Film Studies - he decided to write a book about the Midlands rockers.
But Neil has already switched his attention to his next project - a book about Robert Plant's solo career post Led Zeppelin.
Due for release in February by Independent Music Press, the paperback is called Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page and the Solo Years'.
Neil added: "Music writing is a very tough business. You have to have an opinion and have to love the music you're writing about - otherwise you'll be found out very quickly."
The Story of Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith, published by Omnibus Press, is in shops now.
