THE life of much-loved poet Len Saunders will be celebrated at Lucem House Community Cinema.

The popular figure died aged 65 after he was attacked because he did not give a drunken yob a cigarette in July 2017.

To mark what would have been his 67th birthday, the Len Banana Evening will be held at the cinema, where Len was steward.

The event, which is a sell-out, will start at 5pm and runs until 9.30pm.

The evening will include live music from the Palace Fields Ukulele Group (PUGS), locally written poetry and drama and the festive 1946 film 'It's a Wonderful Life, produced and directed by Frank Capra.'

And if that isn't enough there will also be a seasonal hotpot (meat and vegan) served during the interval at no extra cost.

The evening is to help raise funds for The Len Banana Writing Room based at Lucem House, this is a community centred initiative dedicated to the memory of Len which aims to help and encourage local writers.

Len's friend and poet Sue Gerrard said: "Our event is in memory of writer, actor and much-loved man Len Saunders and to celebrate the wonderful legacy that he left behind which enriches all our lives.

"The evening is going to be a very emotional yet proud time for those who knew Len."
