A FAMILY who suffered severe gastric illness while on holiday in a Majorca resort have asked for an investigation into how their "complete nightmare" emerged.

Leanne Morris, 36, from Prescot, husband Paul, 37, and their children James, 10, Benjamin, six, and one-year-old Leo, all began to suffer with diarrhoea and vomiting during their break at the Fergus Club Europa at the end of September this year.

The problems had a lasting impact on their enjoyment of the holiday, which had been booked through Jet2 to give the family precious time away.

Following their return home, Leanne called on Irwin Mitchell’s specialist holiday illness team to investigate their experiences and help them gain answers regarding what caused the problems.

Jatinder Paul, an associate solicitor at Irwin Mitchell who is representing Leanne and her family, said: “We are deeply concerned by the issues that our clients faced during what was meant to be a special break abroad.

“The nature of our work means we have seen numerous cases in which victims of gastric illness problems have developed long-term health conditions, with younger generations being particularly susceptible to such problems.

“With this in mind, we are determined to fully understand the nature of the problems that this family have faced and help them get the justice they deserve regarding the issues which ruined this special holiday. As part of our investigations we would like to hear from other guests who may have information about conditions at the hotel this autumn.”

The Morris family’s stay started on September 21 and it was just two days later that they say they first started to suffer from symptoms.

Leanne said: “We were looking forward to the holiday so much. James fell ill on the 23rd and then the rest of us followed. We dropped like flies and it was so bad we need to see the resort doctor.

“It was horrific to go through and particularly hard to see how it affected Leo, who had only just turned one at that point. Paul and I did our best to help the kids but we were struggling too, even to the point where we were fighting over the bathroom – it was just a complete nightmare.

“While we had occasionally seen issues like food left uncovered and issues with faeces being in the swimming pool, we never thought for one moment that we would be ill. No family should have to go through what we have and lessons have to be learned. This should not happen again.”

When the Star approached Jet2 for comment, a spokesperson said: “We are sorry to hear that the Morris family were taken ill during their holiday, but as we have been contacted by legal representatives it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment.”
