POLICE have launched an investigation into the sudden death of a 13-year-old girl in the early hours of this morning (Monday).

At 11.40pm last night police and paramedics were called to an address on Sandon Close, Rainhill to reports of a 13-year-old girl being taken ill.

The girl was removed by ambulance to hospital where she was sadly pronounced dead at 1.20am.

Her next of kin are aware and are being supported by officers at this time.

A post mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of her death, which is currently being treated as unexplained, and which will involve toxicology and other medical reports.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and police are speaking to safeguarding partners to provide appropriate support.
