A MURDER investigation has been launched after a woman was stabbed to death on Saturday morning.

Police were called to Swan Avenue, Derbyshire Hill at 11.40am where a 29-year-old woman had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Officers and paramedics gave the woman medical assistance and an air ambulance attended but her death was confirmed at the scene.

On Sunday police released details of a man they want to speak to in connection with the murder.

Detectives, who believe the offender was known to the victim, say 23-year-old Adam Brettle from Warrington may have vital information and are asking him to come forward immediately to assist.

Police want to trace Adam Brettle

Detective Chief Inspector John Williams said: "Brettle is someone we are very keen to speak to as soon as possible, as our investigation into this tragic murder continues.

“I would advise the public not to approach Brettle directly if you see him, but to call police on 999 immediately so that we can take the necessary action.

“I also want to make it clear that having any current association with Brettle will bring police officers to your door, so I would encourage anyone with information to do the right thing and come forward as soon as possible.

"Officers would ask anyone who may come into contact with Brettle to contact the police on 999.

"I would like to reassure the local community that incidents like this are extremely rare and would ask anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

"We have stepped up high visibility patrols and they will remain in the area over the coming days to assist with the investigation and to reassure the community."

Last night Detective Chief Inspector Ian Warlow confirmed a Home Office post mortem would take place to establish the cause of death.

The woman has yet to be named but her next of kin have been informed.
