A TV producer is celebrating after his show won a Bafta Scotland award in the Best Entertainment category.

Daniel Twist from Eccleston, says he was “blown away” at his BBC 1 show Armchair Detectives - hosted by comedian Susan Calman - winning the prestigious prize.

The 40-year-old who now lives in Glasgow with his husband Jose, hopes that his win can inspire others aiming to get into TV work to keep going, adding that “the world is your oyster if you just put the work in to get there”.

The series is a murder mystery programme where enthusiasts try to figure out who was the murderer of a pre recorded scene.

Daniel, said: “The idea is a bit like Cluedo but on TV and it came about after watching shows like Taggart, Touch of Frost and Midsummer Murders, when people at home are saying to family and their partners, “I reckon that person did it”. So our show was about bringing that to the screen and the contestants who are really into murder mystery just loved coming away with the trophies.

“Most TV series I produce are either in a studio or on location, so for this one to be both was great - it was filmed initially for the murder scenes in North Berwick - then the show itself is in a studio and it took eight months to put altogether.

“To be nominated for the Bafta Scotland was a huge deal, but to win it just blew me away. It’s something to be very proud of.”

The former St Helens College student added: “For me, a lad from St Helens, to walk away with the Bafta is just wonderful, they had to scrape me up from the floor. I’m proud from where I’m from, I still follow Saints

“My mum and dad are really made up for me, my mum said that when she comes to see me soon it better be up on the mantlepiece in pride of place.

“I’d say to people back home that the world is your oyster if you just put the work in to get there.

“I don’t believe it when people say people from backgrounds with little money etc can’t get where they want - of course they can, look at me - you just have to have the drive there and keep going for it.”
