A GROUP of singers from St Helens - including Kiera Weathers and former Stillia frontman Jack Bennett - joined forces to perform a song about the borough in aid of brave six-year-old Kaycee Bradshaw who is fighting a terminal disease.
Kaycee, from Sutton, is battling Batten Disease, a neurological condition that has affected her ability to walk, talk and will lead to childhood dementia.
Fundraising events have taken place across the town to support Kaycee and her family as they embark on weekly gruelling journeys to Great Ormond Street Hospital for ongoing enzyme treatment which is halting the effects of the disease.
On Saturday, the performers, which also included songstress Olivia Parr, drummer Matty Bennet, singer James Erlam, banded together under the guidance of Keith Grimes, owner of KG Express, to raise as much money as possible to support Kaycee by performing a song Fairytale of St Helens, inspired by The Pogues' Fairytale of New York.
The song was the brainchild of Keith, who has been a staunch campaigner for Kaycee’s family, and who earlier this year joined fellow KG Live lounger Ben Cunliffe and singer Jack Bennett to make a music video in aid of Kaycee in the KG Express van.
Keith, 44, said: "I was really happy with it and the reaction to it has been huge, my phone hasn't stopped with the notifications. It's phenomenal.
"I asked Jack Bennet and through that got in touch with Claire Mullen who contacted me and asked me to do a few live lounges with different artists, which I did and I told her I wanted to do a charity Christmas song for Kaycee.
"She was happy with the idea, I asked Jack and he agreed, then Kiera Weather did and then Claire got James Erlam and Olivia Parr involved and Matt Bennett agreed to do the drums.
"We also have other artists involved in the chorus and a videographer, originally from St Helens, Louise McHendry (of The McHendrys) agreed to shoot the video with her husband Ben for free.
"Kaycee's family absolutely love it, they are a lovely family who don't ask for anything.
"So the fact that this has been taken out of their hands is great.
"It was amazing on Saturday to see Kaycee's lovely little face as she turned on the lights and heard our song - her lovely smile brightens anyone's day.
"This video has had more than 20,000 views, if everyone of those people donated something, even 50p, then it could change this lovely little girl's life.
"It's available on iTunes and all the money will go to Kaycee, otherwise you can donate straight to the JustGiving page."
The song has so far raised £420 for Kaycee's family and is available on iTunes and Spotify.
The lyrics:
It was Christmas Eve babe
In St. Helens town
An old man said to me
Be what you want to be
So then I sang a song
And got the words all wrong
I just want to make you smile
And do thing KG style
Now I’m the lucky one
To sing for everyone
I got a feeling this years for everyone
So happy Christmas
I love St. Helens
I can see some better times
Where all our dreams come true
We’ve got Costa’s a plenty
Pubs filled with real ales
An army of pensioners
Just wait for the sales
When you first take a stroll
Round our St. Helens town
You’ll see Johnny Wellies
He’ll call you a clown
He is old
He is funny
The guys got no money
When you see him you’ll realise the legend he is
Saints fans are singing
our team must be winning
We scored in the corner
And then kicked the goal
The Fans in the totally wicked ground
Are singing c’mon on you saints
And the bells are ringing out for Christmas time
We drink rum
We drink gin
It’s the best town I’ve been
We’re lucky to live here
We’re saints and we’re proud
This town is contagious
Just ask Johnny Vegas
Merry Christmas St. Helens
Be sure to stay safe
Rpt the fans in the totally
I should go out tonight
In fact I think I might
Come join me for a jar
I’ll be at the bar
In my local pub
Then Genos for some grub
A taxi home for me
ill go to A to B
Rpt the fans in the totally wicked
